Revitalize Your Home with Color

Paint can really create some positive change in a house. Paint is one of the easiest ways to revitalize a room. Here are some tips to help you choose the right shades and bring beautiful colors into your home.

  • Select a color scheme by looking at your room's furniture, window treatments and floors. When unsure, buy a sample quart of your chosen color to do a paint test.

  • When painting over a large wall, most colors tend to appear darker than expected. Consider choosing a shade or two lighter from your initial color choice. Lighting in the room can also affect the outcome of the color.

  • Colors can have an impact on your mood. When considering shades for a room, think how the colors make you feel and what you're trying to accomplish. Use cooling hues such as blues and greens to create a calm and restful atmosphere Warm colors like reds oranges and yellows can bring excitement to a room. Be careful with these colors you don't want to over due it.

  • The safe choice when selling your home is to choose very neutral colors. We like to call it "realtor beige." It warms up a house, it looks classy, and it is a safe bet when it comes to buyers.

  • Paint ceilings with a lighter color to add a nice contrast. Although, if the colors are neutral, try the same color. I;m a little more bold when it comes to color so I will paint it the same color.

  • Touch up the trim and doors with a nice flat white. This will really add some spark to a room. It looks like a new house.

  • The biggest thing when choosing paint, make sure you coordinate the colors in adjoining rooms so they compliment each other and flow from one room to the next.
