During the cold gloomy days of winter, many people tend to get down. This can show as mild depression, loss of energy, and mood changes. Though all of these things can be mild or severe, there are ways to combat this.
The lack of light during the colder months of the year can affect your levels of melatonin, a sleep related hormone that can cause you to feel "yucky." One easy way to help with this is switching to brighter light bulbs or increase the light source in your house. Replace your fluorescent bulbs with full-spectrum lights that stimulate natural daylight. Keep your window coverings open to allow the sunlight to come in.
Even though it's cold and you might not be having a lot of people over during this time of the year, keep your home clean and clutter free. Maintain a comfortable environment by keeping your home at a warm temperature, and surround yourself with bright and colorful accessories. It never hurts to burn some scented candles that make you smile or feel good when you smell them.
One of the most important things that people forget about during the colder months is getting enough exercise. This will really help elevate your mood. After your workouts your endorphins are increased which makes your happier.
Also, getting enough social support can really help with the winter blues. Don't isolate yourself. Find reasons to get out and mingle with your friends. Attend networking events, have cookie exchange parties, have a Silpada or Arbonne party, go bowling, or have a white elephant gift exchange. Before you know it, you have made it through winter and are enjoying spring.
