Household Mold Prevention

Mold can be very destructive to your home. It can cause damage with in the structural elements, cabinets, floors, under toilets, under hot water heaters, under washer machines, and in the roof from your vents. If there is mold in your house it needs to be remedied immediately because it can lead to major health concerns with you and your family.

Here are some helpful hints to help mold from growing: (Even if you do these there is still a chance that mold can appear in your home.)

  • First thing I would recommend if you have a concern that there is mold, hire an inspector. They will climb around on your roof, through your crawl spaces, and look in areas that you wouldn't think to look.

  • If you know you have water leaks on your roof, repair them immediately. Call a roofer and get them repaired and then make sure water isn't leaking and settling in your roof and ceiling. Correct it if it is.

  • Repair any leaking faucets or pipes.

  • Vacuum your home often and make sure you clean your linoleum and tile floors with a strong cleaning agent to get rid of any chance of bacteria or mold from settling.

  • When showering in your bathrooms make sure you use the vents. This will eliminate from any moisture turning into mold.

  • Check the outside of your home for mold growth. Paint your trim and make sure you caulk areas so moisture cannot get it.

  • Keep the humidity in your home at a minimum. If you live in climates that are humid go buy a humidity regulator from a local hardware store and make sure your humidity levels are at 35-50%.\

  • Air conditioners can also help with humidity in the warmer months.

  • Make sure you clean up water spills on your carpet and flooring.
